SAIOH takes pleasure in inviting you to attend and participate in its upcoming Annual Conference, which will be held at the Champagne Sports Resort in the Central Drakensberg, KwaZulu-Natal province. The Resort boasts the most spectacular views of Champagne Castle and Cathkin Peak. Top experiences on offer at this hideaway in the lush green valleys below the rugged peaks include: a magnificent 18-hole championship golf course, roaming herds of blesbok and impala, rare birdlife, five dams stocked with bass or trout, and outstanding sporting facilities and cultural activities.

 

In keeping with the Conference theme “Raising the bar in Occupational Hygiene: Informed control reduces worker exposures”, SAIOH is in the process of developing an exciting and stimulating Conference Programme and is proud to announce that you can look forward to the following:

  4. Adrian Sims – Vent Tech Ltd., Bristol, UK - "Testing of local exhaust ventilation (LEV) systems" (TBA)

 In keeping with the Conference theme “Raising the bar in Occupational Hygiene: Informed control reduces worker exposures, SAIOH invites you to submit abstracts, for consideration as either oral or poster presentations, to Conferencepapers@saioh.co.za  Deadline date: 1 July 2018.

 

GUIDELINES FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

(Please use the Abstract Template provided – click here)

  • The abstracts must be submitted in English
  • First names and surnames of all authors and respective affiliations must be provided
  • The presenting author’s name to be in bold and italic text
  • Full names and contact details must be provided – affiliation and e-mail address
  • Each abstract is limited to a maximum of 300 words (please DO NOT include tables, graphs, or references; abstracts longer than 300 words will be automatically rejected)
  • All abstracts will be reviewed by Scientific Committee members; authors will be formally notified of the outcome
  • Authors are requested to choose a sub-theme for their abstracts, from one of the following aspects of control:
    •  Using data to inform control
    •  Control of chemical stressors
    •  Control of physical stressors
  •  NB: A limited number of slots is available for oral presentations, and preference will be given to abstracts of presentations which are well aligned with the requested theme of control.  Preference will also be given to abstracts that showcase examples of successful control interventions, research work or case studies in Occupational Hygiene
  •  There will also be a request for abstract submission from invited stakeholders (e.g. sister organisations in occupational health, Department of Labour, AIA Forum) on aspects of control
  •  The Annual Conference will host the official launch of the SAIOH Mining Forum; hence, the submission of mining-related abstracts is also requested

STUDENT POSTER PRESENTATION COMPETITION

  •  Students registered for tertiary studies are invited to take part in the SAIOH Student Poster Competition.
  • Student posters are to be prepared by following the guidelines below.
  • Proof of student registration is required - please submit a letter from your university or supervisor to this effect, along with your abstract.
  • Students are to be available at their posters at the designated times as per the conference programme, to answer questions from the panel of judges and conference participants.
  • The three top poster presentations will be awarded prizes

Guidelines for Poster Preparation

  • Size: Posters should be no larger than an A0 poster size, i.e. a maximum of 84 cm wide and 118 cm high (portrait orientation)
  •  Mounting: Each poster will be allocated a space for mounting before or during the conference. Materials to mount posters will be provided at the poster venue. Each poster board will be marked with the author names and the poster number, as indicated in the book of abstracts
  • Poster Viewing: Posters will be on display for the duration of the conference

IMPORTANT DATES

  • Deadline for Abstract Submission: 1 July 2018
  • Deadline for Early Bird Registration for Conference and/or PDCs: 31 August 2018
  • Notification of Abstract Acceptance: 1 September 2018
  • Accepted Presenter Registration Deadline to Confirm Attendance: 8 October 2018
  • Presenters whose abstracts have been accepted for presentation will be allowed to attend on the day of their presentation for free, as well as receive a discount of 10% on the Early Bird Registration Fee for the other conference days
  • While poster presentations will be displayed for the duration of the conference, presenters will only be afforded one day of free attendance at the conference
  • Deadline for the submission of the PowerPoint oral presentation for review and upload to the system: 12 October 2018
  • NB: Failure by the presenter to submit the PowerPoint oral presentation by 12 October 2018 will result in withdrawal of the presentation and the related attendance discounts
  • Deadline for Regular Registration for Conference and/or PDCs: 10 October 2018

Only a three-and-a-half hours drive from Johannesburg and 2-hours from Durban, the resort is ideally situated for both relaxing leisure weekends and for corporate conferences.
